A practical pest checklist for Bronx buildings

Use a room-by-room Bronx building checklist to organize resident reports, refuse storage, leak repairs and inspection access.

What to know first

  • Use one contact to collect resident reports.
  • Check food, moisture and entry routes.
  • Track repairs alongside pest visits.

Organize reports before a visit

Ask residents to name the room, time and visible sign rather than simply reporting “bugs.” Keep photographs with the location where they were taken. Separate confirmed identification from a suspicion.

Give the inspection contact a list of affected units and the areas they can access. Note locked storage rooms and any visitor or elevator arrangements.

Walk the shared areas

Look at accessible refuse storage, doors, pipe openings and leaks without disturbing pests or opening secured equipment. Check whether containers close properly and who is responsible for cleaning the area.

Bring maintenance findings into the same record as pest reports. A leak repaired after treatment or a door left with a gap can change what follow-up is needed.

Close the loop

After the visit, record which areas were inspected, which were inaccessible and which actions belong to building staff. Pass treatment preparation and access instructions to the people affected.

At the next review, compare fresh reports and completed repairs. Keep the process factual and respectful: a shared-building pest problem benefits from cooperation and clear responsibilities.
