What to know first
- Track activity by work area.
- Include receiving and refuse access in the inspection.
- Assign cleaning and repair responsibilities clearly.
Map the way goods move
Think through the route from the delivery door to storage and the selling or preparation area. Report damaged packaging, repeated insect sightings and locations where stock stays undisturbed.
Do not assume a fly trap or one treated corner represents the whole plan. Ask how the source will be investigated and how the findings will be recorded.
Include shared spaces
Some storefronts share waste areas, basements or utility routes with other businesses and apartments. Explain that arrangement before the visit and identify the person who can provide access.
If the provider cannot inspect an area, ask for the limitation to be recorded. A clear boundary makes it easier to coordinate the next step with the owner or manager.
Make follow-up practical
Agree who checks monitors, reports sightings, completes cleaning and arranges repairs. Store instructions where the responsible staff can find them when shifts change.
For food premises, discuss your documentation needs directly with the provider. Pest treatment does not replace the business’s sanitation duties or an official inspection.
Sources and further reading
General guidance cannot identify the pest or determine the treatment for a specific property. Discuss the evidence and preparation with the person inspecting your space.
